Introduction

Koresh wrestling is a kind of combat sports on sashes or belts where the aim of a wrestler is to lift and throw an opponent on his back from a position of a stand using any of the allowed techniques.

History

Belt wrestling Koresh has ancient origins and along with customs, rites and traditions represent the national culture of Tatars. From immemorial time folk festivals, Sabantuy was held in the places of Tatar's dense dwelling in Russian territory. National belt wrestling Koresh was in the high light at these festivals. There are historical manuscripts describing the Tatar national festival in 922 and the major competition was wrestling in the middle of maidan(an open space area in a town or a village). Nowadays, Koresh is very popular in the Volga region, the Ural, and other parts of Russia.
